Idols

I once spoke to a young pastor, who desperately wanted revival in his church, but when people's vision of God started to shift and enlarge, he told me, that he didn't want any of that 'love stuff' in his congregation, but rather some 'real spiritual breakthrough'. Remembering that conversation this morning, out of the blue, I was wondering what kind of god we expect, if we look down at that 'love stuff'. Since God IS Love, and we are made in His image, called to express His nature to all creation, aren't we worshipping an idol, if we think we are too spiritual for love? Fact is, the main reason of why our vision of God is not transforming us into His image, might be that we are still clinging to a vision of God, that is made in our own image. "Therefore speak to them and tell them, 'This is what the Lord Yahweh says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I Yahweh will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry." - Ezekiel14:4 That's why I always chuckle inwardly when I get accused of 'making God too nice'. What would really worry me, if I would make God to look like me. How can one worship a God, that is not better than oneself? "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine..." - Ephesians 3:20-21 "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are ... now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when it is been made known, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is." - 1 John 3:1-2 "Dear children, keep yourself from idols." - 1 John 5:21
